BCHL Today: Express add Howe from Victoria, Spruce Kings deal Leal east, Smokies grab Osadick from Cents, and more

Express add netminder Howe from Victoria

The Coquitlam Express acquired goaltender Joe Howe from the Victoria Grizzlies for future considerations on Tuesday. Howe, 18, had an 8-14-0 record with the Grizzlies in 26 games this season to go along with a 3.91 GAA and an .898 SV%. He is committed to Cornell University for the 2021-22 season and was a picked by the Barrie Colts in the 11th round, 201st overall in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection.

The move puts the Express with three goalies on its roster, as Howe joins league leader Clay Stevenson and Jack Watson in Coquitlam’s crease.

Spruce Kings send defenceman Leal to Ontario

Prince George made its second trade in as many days on Tuesday as the Spruce Kings sent defenceman Cole Leal to the Hawkesbury Hawks of the CCHL for future considerations. The 18-year-old was in his first BCHL season and had four assists in 25 games for PG. Leal is from Belleville, Ontario, so the trade puts him closer to home as Hawkesbury is about a 3.5 hour drive away.

Cents give defenceman Cooke a full time roster spot

The Merritt Centennials have signed defenceman Chase Cooke to their full-time roster. The 16-year-old from Merritt has played five games with the Cents this season as an affiliate player, notching one assist. He also had six goals and nine assists in 29 games with the Princeton Posse of the KIJHL.

Smoke Eaters grab forward Osadick from Merritt

The Trail Smoke Eaters and Merritt hooked up on a trade Tuesday that saw the Cents move forward Matt Osadick to the Kootenays. Osadick has three goals and five assists in 36 games with the Centennials this season. Before joining the Cents in an off-season trade, Osadick had 104 points in 99 games with the Swan Valley Stampeders of the MJHL. He is committed to the University of Maine for this September.

Cents-Smokies game postponed due to weather

Due to winter weather conditions, the Centennials and Smoke Eaters game scheduled for Tuesday night was postponed. The drive from Merritt to Trail is about 5.5 hours in ideal conditions, with winter weather walloping the Interior and Kootenay region of BC and driving conditions not looking good, the decision was made to postpone the game to a date later in the season.

Ardanaz named BCHL High School Player of the Month for December

West Kelowna Warriors defenceman Nick Ardanaz has been named the BCHL High School Player of the Month for December. The 17-year-old had ten points during the last month of 2019 and maintained a 91 percent grade average in the first semester of school. Ardanaz has one goal and 18 assists in 39 games this season.
