Kings bring on Van Diemen as general manager

The Powell River Kings continued to restructure their hockey operations department with the hiring of Chad Van Diemen as general manager on Friday. Van Diemen, who spent three seasons in the BCHL as a player from 1998 to 2001, has spent the last two seasons out of the league.

The 38-year-old was head coach with the Prince George Spruce Kings from 2015-17. He also held the roles of associate coach and assistant GM with Powell River from 2009-13.

Cornell University commit Mahoney signs with Nanaimo

The Nanaimo Clippers announced the commitment of forward Shaun Mahoney for next season. The 17-year-old spent this past season with Stanstead College in Quebec where he had 12 goals and 11 assists in 24 games.

Mahoney is committed to Cornell University starting in September 2021.

Vees nab Quinnipiac recruit Quillan

The Penticton Vees continued to add players for 2020-21 with the signing of forward Jacob Quillan. The 18-year-old played with the Salisbury School during the 2019-20 season and posted 17 goals and 20 assists in 28 games.

Quillan is from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and committed to attend Quinnipiac University and play for the Bobcats starting in September 2021.

Clippers ink Clarkson-bound blueliner Rose

The Nanaimo Clippers announced on Friday that they have added another US prep school player in defenceman Carter Rose.

The 17-year-old from Brasher Falls, NY had seven goals and 22 assists in 28 games at Holderness School last season. He is committed to attend Clarkson University in fall 2022.

Chiefs add University of Massachusetts commit O’Connor

The Chilliwack Chiefs picked up defenceman Kennedy O’Connor for the 2020-21 season. The 18-year-old spent 2018-19 with The Loomis Chaffee School in Connecticut where he had three goals and 14 assists in 32 games.

The Springfield, Massachusetts product is set to attend UMass (Amherst) in the fall of 2021. O’Connor was drafted by Shreveport in last year’s NAHL Entry Draft and by Des Moines in last year’s USHL Entry Draft.

Former Chiefs star Van der Gulik to be inducted in hometown Hall of Fame

David Van der Gulik (80 goals, 101 assists in 120 games with Chilliwack from 2000-02) is among this year’s inductees into the Abbotsford Sports Hall of Fame.

Three Stars of the Night ⏪ April 4, 2017

First Star: Vernon forward Jagger Williamson had two goals and an assist in a 3-0 victory against Penticton in game four of the Interior Conference final.

Second Star: Chilliwack captain Jordan Kawaguchi had a hat trick in a 6-0 win over Victoria in game two of the Coastal Conference final.

Third Star: Vipers goaltender Darion Hanson made 32 saves in the win over the Vees.

Honourable Mentions: Chiefs forward Kohen Olischefski and Vipers forward Jesse Lansdell each had a goal and an assist. Chilliwack forward Anthony Vincent posted a pair of assists.
